Originally the extent of “North” Boulder, the neighborhoods framed by Broadway, Iris, Folsom and Alpine-Edgewood are now known as Old North Boulder. This is one of the more consistently zoned/developed sections of Boulder, consisting almost entirely of single family homes built between 1950 and 1970. With the Ideal Market complex anchoring its southwest corner, down town Pearl Street just a half dozen blocks south and the convenience corridor of Folsom Street to the west and just a few blocks from all the amenities of 36th Street, Old North Boulder is truly a walk and bike friendly neighborhood. With equal proximity to NoBo, hiking trails in the foothills, down town, and Rt. 36, this could be Boulder’s most convenient neighborhood.
Getting around without a car is very easy. You’re never more than about five blocks from an RTD bus in Old North Boulder. There are several streets with great bike lanes and the Goose Creek Path connects the neighborhood from Edgwood to the commercial meccas to the east, including the Valmont Bike Park. The community gardens and North Boulder Rec center are not only great resources, but also create a great section of bike path.
Columbine Elementary School which underwent a complete new construction in 2010 is the newest facility in the Boulder Schools. The clean, traditional building, nicely landscaped grounds and extensive play grounds are becoming a new vibrant hub of Old North Boulder.
